90 anos!

Louise Riley Library

Na semana passada fui na “nossa” biblioteca para pegar um novo livro para ler. Já tinha terminado o meu e estava a fim de começar um autor canadense. Não sabia ainda o que ler quando vi no blog dos tri uma sugestão de leitura: Farley Mowat, escritor canadense e autor de Never cry wolf. Acabei ficando com o livro Lost in the Barrens (juvenil).
Last week I went to “our” library to take another book to read. I had already finished the one I was reading and was interested in readind a Canadian author. Just I didn’t know what exactly to read. As a coincidence I saw in the tri’s blog a good suggestion: Farley Mowat, author of Never Cry Wolf. I ended taking the juvenile book Lost in the Barrens.

No dia seguinte a Alice viu o meu livro e quis também ir na biblioteca. Mas, quis ir de bici. Fiquei em dúvida, por que não é tão perto, e precisa atravessar umas ruas mais movimentadas, mas encarei a empreitada. Fomos.

The next day Alice had a look at my book and asked me to go bicycling to the library. I didn’t know what to say because the library is not so close and to get there we must cross some busy avenues. Anyway, we did it!

Logo que nos mudamos para a casa fizemos o nosso cartão de biblioteca. Um para cada um de nós. Pagamos 12 dólares (eu e Quico - para a Alice é free) e temos direito de usar as bibliotecas de Calgary por um ano. A que fica mais próxima da nossa casa é a Louise Ridley, mas podemos usar qualquer uma.

Soon after we moved to our house we got our library cards: one for each one of us. We payed $12.00 for our cards. With them we can use all the library resources during one year.

Pode-se retirar livros, cds, dvds e áudio livros; ler jornais on-line ou ler lá mesmo, ou ler diferentes tipos de revistas.
Também podos usar os computadores, conectados na internet, ou levar o nosso próprio e usar o sinal da biblioteca, como fiz inúmeras vezes enquanto não tínhamos internet em casa.
We can borrow books, cds, dvds, audio books; read newspapers over there or on-line or read different kinds of magazines. We can also use the library computers or the library wireless in your own computer as I did many times while we didn’t have internet at home.

Pode-se fazer pesquisa on-line (de casa) no acervo das bibliotecas (de Calgary, todas interligadas), fazer reserva, e reservar espaço para atividades diversas (teatro, contação de estórias, oficinas, palestras, etc....para grandes e pequenos) oferecidas pelas diversas bibliotecas de Calgary.You can also search for any book or something else from home, make a reservation of different items or book. As some extra activities the libraries are also offering: theater, reading, workshops, lectures, etc. for kids or grown ups.

Só para constar...

Agora, pela manhã, a temperatura aqui era essa, 3 graus Celsius!
E a Alice se preparando para ir para a escola: de blusinha sem mangas, costas de fora e bermudinha...


Eu disse: "Filha, a temperatura é de 3 graus!"
Ela responde: "Então, mãe, está quente!"

Se dependesse apenas do clima, diria que a Alice está totalmente adaptada! hahahaha....
Essa foi só para constar! Eu, é claro, saí de casacão.

Tarde no parque

Ontem a Alice e a amiga dela (Olivia) não tinham escola. Era dia de planejamento para professores. Decidimos então, ir passear no parque à tarde e aproveitar o lindo dia: sol, ótima temperatura (mais de 20C) e uma leve brisa.

Alice and her friend Olivia didn’t have school (teacher’s planning day) yesterday and so we decided to go to the park in the afternoon.

The weather was great: blue sky, excellent temperature (more than 20C) and a soft wind.

O parque estava lindo, esplendoroso, eu diria. Um colírio para os olhos com seus tons de amarelo e verde contrastando com o azul do céu! Ahhhh!!!!!!

The park was gorgeous with all those shades oyellow and green contrasting with the blue sky!

Não resisti e tirei muitas fotos até a bateria acabar....pena que não consegui fotografar a Alice no fina do dia: imunda de tanto brincar!
I took so many pictures until my batteries died….

Dá para ver pelas fotos que todos que puderam saíram para aproveitar o lindo dia...

Welcoming to the fall

Definitivamente (e oficialmente) o outono chegou !

Podemos apreciar a beleza desta estação em toda a volta.

E essa beleza não vem apenas das lindas cores das folhas das árvores e arbustos.

Vem também do movimento suaves das folhas caindo das árvores...

Do movimento apressado dos esquilos e passarinhos tentando pegar o máximo de comida antes da chegada do inverno...

Do som do vento, do som dos animais e do som das folhas...

Definitely (and officially) the fall is showing up!
You can see the beauty of this season all around.

And it is not only about the pretty colours of the trees and bush leaves.
It’s about much more.
It's the soft movement of the leaves falling down…
The quick movement from the animals (squirrels and birds) doing their best in catching food to store before the long winter comes…
It’s about the sounds of the wind, the animals and the leaves….

Todas essas coisas fazem do outono, uma estação tão especial, tão bonita, tão cheia de emoções!

All of those things make this season so special, so pretty, so emotional!

Hoje (primeiro dia de outono) decidi ir passear de bici no parque e registrar para vocês um pouco disso tudo que falei.
Today (the first autumn day) I decided to go biking to the park and take some pictures to show you some of the things I told you about.

Did I mention the cold I felt on my hands when I took off the gloves to take the pictures?  NO? So, I will talk about it in some other post!

First Night da Night

Pois é, a nossa gatinha já tinha um nome e, como a Alice gostou, resolvemos deixar esse mesmo: Night.

Well, the kitten had already a name – Night - when we adopted her and because Alice liked it we didn’t change the name.

Buscamos a Night ontem à tarde na casa da host family (que abrigou os gatinhos (3) desde que nasceram). Viemos para casa e, logo no início, a Night cheirou tudo e “pulava” a cada barulho diferente. Mas, logo em seguida, já estava super adaptada, brincando com a Alice, com os brinquedinhos que compramos para ela, já tinha feito xixi e cocô no pipi cat (litter box) e até comido um pouquinho.

We picked her up yesterday at noon at the host family home. As soon as we were back home, Night sniffed everything and would jump at each new sound. Nevertheless she soon was adapted, playing with Alice, with the toys we had bought to her, peed and pooped in the litter box and even eate a little bit.

Também tirou uma sonequinha na barriga do Quico enquanto a Alice terminava o homework.

Later she had a nap on Quico’s lap while Alice was finishing her homework.

A Night foi até atrás da Alice no banho! Imaginem se a Alice não adorou!

Even when Alice went to shower Night was there! Alice loved it!

À noite foi um sarro. A Alice queria que a Night dormisse com ela, mas a Night já tinha dado umas cochiladas à tarde e estava hiper acesa! Nada de querer ir dormir. A Alice chorou e, foi uma confusãozinha....

Bem, depois a Night foi para o quarto da Alice dormir com ela.
At night it was interesting because Alice wanted Night to sleep with her but Night already had had her nap in the evening and didn’t want to sleep! Alice cried a little bit…but Night eventually went to sleep with her.

No meio da noite eu acordei com uns barulhos de passos para lá e para cá.....Fui ver, era a Alice que tinha acordado e estava brincando na sala com a Night! Ela me disse: “ a Night não quer dormir, quer brincar....” Mandei ela de volta para cama, mas percebi que demorou para pegar no sono novamente.

Conseqüência: não teve jeito de acordar as gatinhas pela manhã! Hahaha.....
In the middle of the night I woke to the sound of steps from here to there....it was Alice playing with Night in the living room!
In the morning was hard to wake them up! Hahhaha….
