Neste último final de semana resolvemos passear por Nova Iorque. Vou tentar descrever como foi esse passeio. Para isso vou começar situando no mapa geral dos EUA aonde fica New York e New York city.
Last weekend we went for a trip to New York City. I’ll try to describe how it was like. I’ll begin by showing you the USA map. This way you can see where NY state and NY City are.
A cidade de Nova Iorque fica no estado de Nova Iorque e é a cidade mais densamente povoada dos EUA. A cidade é dividida em 5 municípios (boroughs): Manhattan (famosa ilha entre os rios Hudson e East), Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx e Staten Island.
New York City is located in the state of New York. It is the most populous city in the United States. The city is divided into boroughs: Manhattan (famous island between Hudson and East rivers), Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island.
Nossa programação era sair na sexta-feira de manhã de Manassas, ir até Washingon resolver um problema da conta do gás e de lá ir de carro até Princeton (que fica no estado de New Jersey). Dormiríamos a primeira noite por lá e no dia seguinte iríamos para New York. Dormiríamos no sábado em New York. E no domingo voltaríamos. Assim fizemos. O trajeto está no mapa abaixo. Estava estimado pelo google map em 259 mi (416 km ), o que seria, aproximadamente 4 horas e 30 minutos de carro.
We were planning to leave Manassas on Friday morning, go to Washington to sort out a problem with the gas company and from there drive to Princeton (in New Jersey). We would sleep one night in Princeton and one night (Saturday) in NY. On Sunday, we’d come back to Manassas. So we did. You can see the itinerary on the map above. Google map estimated the distance about 259 mi (416 km), which would be take, approximately, 4 hours and 30 minutes by car.
Primeira parte da viagem: de carro até Princeton
The first part of the trip: drive to Princeton
Princeton é uma cidade universitária e famosa por ter sido a cidade em que Einstein morou no período em que viveu aqui nos EUA. Também viveram lá Kurt Gödel e John Nash.
É uma cidadezinha muito linda. Foi eleita a número 15 das 100 melhores cidades dos EUA para se viver e trabalhar. Dá para entender!
Princeton is a university city and is famous for having been the city where Einstein lived during the period he was in The United States. Kurt Gödel and John Nash also lived there.
Princeton is also a very pretty city. It was considered number 15 of the best 100 cities to live and work in, in USA. We can understand why!
Chegamos em Princeton no final do dia, largamos as mochilas no hotel e fomos comprar nossas passagens de trem para NY. Depois fomos direto conhecer a casa em que Einstein viveu. Não está aberta à visitação por que tem gente morando lá. Ficamos só imaginando como deve ser morar na mesma casa que Einstein morou....Mas, é claro, tiramos fotos. Aí vai uma para vocês verem.
We arrived in Princeton at the end of the day. We left our back packs at the hotel and went to the train station to buy the tickets to NY. We, then, went to have a look at the house where Einstein lived. There is a family living there now and it’s not open to visitors. We were wondering what it is like to live in the same house that Einstein lived in… Of course, we took some pictures. Here they are.
Depois fomos até o centrinho, estacionamos o carro e caminhamos pelo campus da Universidade.
After that we went to the town center. We parked the car and walked through the University campus.

No dia seguinte fomos até a estação de trem, deixamos o carro lá e pegamos um trem até Nova Iorque. Finamente andamos de trem! E quê trem.....silencioso....limpo.....maravilha!
Next day we took the train to New York City. And what an amazing experience it was quiet…clean…very nice!
Uma hora de viagem e chegamos, finalmente, em NY! Saímos da estação e demos de cara com o Madison Square Garden! Já amamos o que vimos!
One hour in the train and we finally arrived in NY! We left the station and we came to Madison Square Garden! We loved what we saw!
De lá fomos de metrô até o Battery Park. Lá pegamos a balsa (ferry boat) que sai de Manhattan e vai até Staten Island. Não é a ilha que fica a Estátua da Liberdade! Mas nesse passeio temos uma boa vista da estátua e de Manhattan. E melhor: é free. Também temos uma boa vista da famosa Ponte de Brooklyn (Brooklyn Bridge). Também muito bonita.
From there we took the subway to Battery Park where we took the ferry boat that goes from Manhattan to Staten Island (This is not the island of the Statue of Liberty!). During this ferry trip we could see the statue and Manhattan. And the best of all: it was free. We could also see the famous Brooklyn Bridge. It is very beautiful, too.
Depois desse passeio fomos para o hotel (em Brooklin) e deixamos lá uma das mochilas. A parada seguinte foi no Central Park. Caminhamos um pouco por lá e quando a Alice cansou fizemos um passeio de bici. Assim pudemos conhecer um pouco mais do parque.
After that we went to the hotel (in Brooklyn) and left our back packs. The next stop was the Central Park. We walked a little and when Alice got tired so we rented a bicycle to see the rest of the park.
Bem ao lado do parque fica o prédio Dakota, prédio em que John Lennon morou e aonde foi assassinado.
Very close to the park is the Dakota building. This is the building where John Lennon lived and in front of which he was murdered.
Depois disso fomos até o Empire State Building. Chegamos lá no final do dia e quando, finalmente chegamos no topo já estava noite. Mas, valeu a pena. A vista é LINDA! Parece uma pintura. Eu amei e acho que valeu a pena...Mas o Quico, nem chegou perto....quis descer logo por que morre de medo de altura. A Alice adorou. Ela vibrou quando viu, lá de cima, a Estátua da Liberdade. A vista é realmente maravilhosa. O prédio tem 86 andares (381 metros de altura). Levamos apenas 1 minuto para subir os primeiros 80 andares. Depois trocamos de elevador para subir os 6 restantes.
We then went to the Empire State Building. We arrived at the end of the day. It was great! The view is very beautiful, MARAVELLOUS! It looks like a painting. I loved it and I think that it was worthwhile…. Alice loved it too. She got very excited when she saw the Statue of Liberty from the top of the building. The view is astonished. But Quico is afraid of height and he couldn’t get close to the bars…he wanted to leave there soon. The building has 86 floors (381 m). We took only 1 minute to get to the first 80 floors. After that we changed elevators to get to the top.

The Empire State was built in 1931 and it took only one year and 45 days to be completely finished. Incredible, isn’t it? I can not help but wonder about the employees working on the top of the building….what courage! Here is the official link: http://www.esbnyc.com/index2.cfm
Depois de tudo isso paramos para comer algo. Eu comi de sobremesa uma cheese cake, que como a Itanira tinha dito, é uma delícia! Aí vai um pedacinho para dar água na boca!
After all the excitement we stopped to have something to eat. I had some cheese cake, and like Itanira had told me, it was delicious! I’m sending a little piece of it to make your mouth water!
No dia seguinte, antes de voltarmos para Princeton, resolvemos dar uma passadinha no Rockfeller Plaza. Tivemos muita sorte por que a pista de patinação estava aberta (não abre durante todo o ano) e pudemos patinar. Eu e a Alice patinamos. Estava uma delícia! Já combinamos que da próxima vez o Quico é que vai com ela. Sniff, sniff......
The next day, before went back to Princeton, we decided to visit the Rockfeller Plaza. We were lucky because the ice rink was open (it doesn’t open all the year) and so Alice and I could go skating. It was wonderful! Next time will be Quico and Alice. Sniff, sniff…
Buenas, depois de toda a patinação (ficamos uma hora patinando) ainda caminhamos umas 6 ou 8 quadras até a estação de trem.
Well, after the skating (we did it for an hour) we walked almost 8 blocks to the train station.
E no caminho: a segunda maior biblioteca (não acadêmica) dos EUA. A primeira fica em Washington DC e é a biblioteca do Congresso.
And on the way to the staion we saw the second biggest library (non academic) of The United States. The biggest is the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
Votamos para Princeton, pegamos o carro e back to Manassas. A Alice dormiu no trem....
We went back to Princeton and drove back to Manassas. Alice fell asleep in the train…
Adoramos NY e já estamos planejando a volta. Queremos nos organizar melhor para gastarmos menos. Por que NY é linda, mas também, é cara!
We loved NY City and we are already planning to return there. We need to budget for the nest trip because NY City is beautiful but also expensive!
