Primeiro passeio

This is something interesting about languages. This word “passeio” is one of those words I can’t find a property correlation in English. I already had tried different words to describe it, but I never could find the best one, so today I kept the post title in Portuguese.
Uma das coisas que acho interessante a respeito das línguas é a falta que sentimos de algumas palavras. Neste caso, sinto a falta da palavra passeio, em inglês. Já tentei várias alternativas para substituir, mas parece que nunca consigo achar uma palavra ou expressão com sentido tão bem expresso quanto em português. Por isso, desa vez o título do post ficou em português.

However this post is not about language, but about the first “passeio” (small trip) we had with Marisa. We went to Banff for a long weekend (yes, Alice missed one school day) and spent three days in Banff and Canmore, enjoying all the beauty of this region and enjoying our time together in a very nice hotel.
Mas, não é disso que quero falar. Quero contar um pouco e mostrar um pouco do nosso primeiro passeio com a Marisa por aqui. A Alice faltou um dia de aula e fizemos um final de semana prolongado em Banff. Ficamos num hotel tri bom e aproveitamos bastante a beleza das montanhas nevadas.

Family Day

Last Monday we celebrated the Family Day going to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller (at  Horseshoe Cannyon). We found late in the morning that the museum entrance was free for this holiday, so we went there.

Na última segunda-feira nós aproveitamos o feriado dedicado à família para fazer um passeio de família. Fomos ao museu de dinossauros (Royal Tyrrel Museum) que fica em Drumheller (no Horseshoe canion - aonde já estivemos no verão). Nós descobrimos que a entrada para o museu era gratuita, devido ao feriado, então nos mandamos para lá.

This museum is wonderfull and there were a long time we were planning to go there. It is not only a exhibits museum about dinossaurs, but it is a top research place about paleontology. The museum not only holds numerous skeltons and fossils of  dinosaurs as it holds one of the biggest fossils collections of the world.

O museu abriga não só uma grande coleção de esqueletos e fósseis de dinossauros (uma das maiores do mundo), como também é um espaço dedicado à pesquisa em paleontologia.

How could it be happened?

This was Alice’s question for us as soon as we told her she will have a sister or brother…
It was hard to tell her…maybe because it has been hard for us – to swallow this news, this change in our lives… No, it wasn’t in our plans as new immigrants. For Quico, it wasn’t in his plans at all. For me, maybe it could be in plans for the future…Anyway, it happened and now the baby is a fruit of good moments! So, why worry about it? Hahahaha….

“Como isso foi acontecer?” foi a pergunta que a Alice nos fez logo que contamos para ela que vai ter uma irmã ou irmão. Foi difícil contar para ela...talvez por que tenha sido difícil para a gente engolir essa novidade, essa mudança repentina e inesperada nas nossas vidas...Sim, não estava nos nosso planos ter mais um filho, pelo menos não nesse momento tão delicado de imigrantes recém chegados. Para o Quico, isso não estava nem nos planos. Para mim....talvez, em futuro um pouco mais distante.
De qualquer forma, aconteceu agora e o bebê é o fruto de bons momentos! Então por que ficarmos preocupados? Hahahaha...

Alice said she is neither happy nor sad about the baby. She is just not feeling comfortable about it. However she has been very kind and worried about it. Sometimes she has some aggressive moments, but I believe they are very normal and anyway those moments had been happening before the pregnancy.
A Alice disse que não está feliz, nem triste; que apenas não se sente confortável com o fato. Mas tem demonstrado muito carinho e preocupação com o bebê e comigo. Às vezes tem uns ataques de brabeza, mas que acredito, são perfeitamente normais e já vinham acontecendo antes também.

I was already suspecting about the pregnancy since Christmas and had given to me a due date to check it: New Year’s. On Monday (January 3rd) I went to a drug store and bought the test kit. It turned out, undoubtedly, positive. I didn’t know if cry of happiness or scare! The hardest part was waiting for Quico and wait until Alice got quiet to tell him the news.
Eu já estava desconfiada da gravidez deste a época do Natal e me dei um prazo de esperar até o final de semana do Ano Novo. Na segunda-feira (03/01) fui a uma farmácia e comprei o teste. Deu positivo e eu não sabia se chorava de felicidade ou de desespero. O difícil foi esperar o Quico chegar e a Alice se aquietar para contar para ele

We decided to tell to Alice about the pregnancy only after her birthday party, because of two reasons for that: don’t mix up the things – her birthday and my pregnancy, and to give us more time to digest the news and don’t tell her as it were a bad news. (Is it?)
Decidimos contar para a Alice apenas depois do aniversário dela por duas razões: para que a festinha dela fosse só dela, sem outras novidades e para que nós dois tivéssemos tempo de digerir a idéia e não dar a notícia como se fosse um problema. (Será que é?)

The same week we found we are pregnant we had our appointment with our family doctor who asked me for some tests (blood and ultrasound) and booked my first prenatal. I did the tests and I was very positively impressed about the public health system of Alberta. It was very easy to set up the appointments (by phone) and everything was done at the exact time. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes each time! The doctors, nurses and technicians were very kind and treated me very well.

Na mesma semana que confirmamos a gravidez, marcamos a consulta com o nosso médico de família que pediu exames e marcou a primeira consulta pré natal (para um mês depois). Já fiz alguns exames de sangue e duas ecografias e estou muito bem impressionada com o sistema público de saúde daqui. Marcamos as consultas muito facilmente por telefone e fui sempre atendida no horário marcado. Nunca esperei mais de 5 minutos pelo atendimento. Os médicos, enfermeiras e técnicos sempre me atenderam educadamente e foram sempre muito simpáticos.

Happy Valentines

Today morning I got a really good surprise: flowers from Quico! Beautiful flowers....I just loved them.
Hoje pela manhã o Quico me surpreendeu com um lindo bouquet de flores! Lindas!!!!! Amei.

I liked it so much that I decided to make a Smile Box only with pictures of us.
Gostei tanto que resolvi postar e fazer um smile box com um apanhado de fotos nossas.

Alice’s birthday

Alice turned 8th on January 16^th and to celebrate her first birthday in Canada we planned a climbing party at The Crux Climbing and Bouldering on Saturday 15^th.

Alice fez 8 anos no dia 16 de janeiro e para comemorar o primeiro aniversário na terrinha gelada decidimos fazer uma festa num lugar para escalar paredes.

She invited all her friends and we had 17 kids climbing the walls! It was very fun and Alice enjoyed her party a lot.
Ela convidou todos os amigos e por isso tivemos 17 crinaças escalando "montanhas" na festinha. A Alice adorou e espero que todos tenham se divertido muito também!

For the first hour and half kids climbed the "mountains" and some of them played table soccer (????). Later we sang the Happy Birthday, had some hot-dogs, some snacks, cup cakes, pops and popsicles. Yammy!!! 

Na primeira hora e meia as crianças podiam escalar as paredes do local. Alguns preferiram ficar jogando Fla-flu, ao invés. Depois cantamos o prabéns e comemos coisinhas gostosas....

On January 16^th Alice wanted be alone with her aunty, mommy and daddy…So we had lunch in a restaurant in downtown.

No dia do aniversário mesmo a Alice queria é curtir a titia - e os papais, por obrigação.... Fomos então almoçar num restaurante em downtown.
