The school year is getting to the end and it is time for some celebrations…
O ano escolar está ido para o fim e com ele algumas comemorações…

Last week was Alice’s Kindergarten Completion Celebration. The kindergarteners sang some songs; gave a speech and received a certificate. It was very beautiful.
Na semana passada foi a cerimônia de encerramento das aulas do Kindergarten na escola da Alice. As crianças, cantaram, fizeram um discurso e receberam um certificado. Estava bem legal!

One child from each class was picked to make a speech. Alice was the one of her class who made the speech at the microphone. She said: “In science we learned big words like metamorphosis”. I can’t say the way she does!
Uma criança de cada turma disse uma parte do discurso e a Alice foi a que representou a turma dela. Ela falou no microfone: “Em ciências nós aprendemos palavras grandes como metamorfose”

After the celebration we received a special letter from the Gifted Program: Alice was approved to participate in it.
Depois da cerimônia recebemos uma notícia especial do Gifted Program: A Alice foi aprovada para participar no programa.

The Gifted Educational Program is an academic program that caters to excelling students and can vary from place to place. In The Prince William County Public Schools the students receive an “appropriate differentiated services to develop into a reflective thinker who can analyze and combine materials and ideas to integrate and transform such materials and ideas into exemplary solutions or products”.
Este programa é um programa acadêmico que oportuniza um melhor ensino para os alunos que se destacam na escola. Pode variar de lugar para lugar. Nas escolas públicas deste condado (Prince William) os alunos “gifteds” recebem ensino diferenciado para que possam desenvolver o pensamento reflexivo e se aprimorarem intelectualmente e afetivamente. É uma maneira da escola “cuidar” também dos bons alunos.

About two months ago Alice’s teacher had indicated her to be assessed for the program and a month ago she was tested. Usually is a IQ test. And just now we received the letter telling us that she is eligible to participate in the program.
Há mais ou menos dois meses atrás a professora da Alice a indicou para o programa. Daí uma pessoa especializada e de fora da escola foi até lá e aplicou uns testes nela., que geralmente são testes de QI. Só agora recebemos a carta confirmando que a Alice foi aprovada e poderá participar do Programa.

More good news: Quico’s students had the highest scores in the SOL exams in all the history of the school! It means that he is REALLY a good teacher and even with thee all difficulties he had during the school year he did a great job!
Mais boas notícias: os alunos do Quico obtiveram o maior score nos exams de SOL de toda a história da escola dele! Isto significa muito aqui e ainda que ele é um ótimo professor. Apesar de todas as dificuldades encontradas e enfrentadas durante todo o ano letivo, no final, ele fez um excelente trabalho!

SOL exams are a bit like ENEM, but not just for High School. By the end of the 8th grade, students are tested in Math, Science, Reading and Writing . More than that, the school’s budget for the next year depends on the SOL results.
Os exams de SOL são um pouco parecidos com o ENEM, mas acontecem para todas as séries a partir do 3º. ano do fundamental. No caso das oitavas séries, os alunos são testados em matemática, ciências, leitura e escrita. E mais, o orçamento da escola está diretamente vinculado aos resultados destes exames.

I am very proud of Alice and Quico. I should be a very special person to have two brilliant and lovely people as my family!
