Thanksgiving Holiday: Big Apple

Mais uma vez fomos à Nova Iorque. Desta vez no feriadão de Thanksgiving. Quinta-feira dirigimos 396 km de Manassas até Newark e, após cinco horas, chegamos finalmente no hotel!
During the Thanksgiving break we visited, once again, New York City. On Thursday we drove 246 miles (396 km) from Manassas to Newark and 5 hours later we arrived in the hotel.

Daí outra maratona começou: ônibus (gratuito) do hotel até o aeroporto de Newark, trem (Air Train) dentro do aeroporto até a estação de trem e trem até Nova Iorque. E lá....metrô sempre que precisássemos!
Then another little journey started: take the shuttle (and free) bus from the hotel to Newark Airport, take the Air Train (in the airport) to the Train Station, and take the train to New York City. And then…take the subway whenever we need!

Eu sei....tá difícil de ler, mas está, sim, escrito New York!

Nosso primeiro destino foi a famosa e mais antiga loja de brinquedos dos Estados Unidos, a Schwartz Store. Mas, era dia de Thanksgiving e a loja estava fechando quando chegamos lá. A Alice não gostou muito!
The first place we visited was the Schwarz Store. It is the oldest toy store in the USA. But, Thursday was Thanksgiving Day and the store was closing when we arrived there at 5 p.m. Alice didn’t like it!

Fomos também ao Rockefeller Plaza para ver a, também famosa, árvore de Natal. Lá encontramos os nossos amigos romenos: a Raluca e o Cristi. Tiramos algumas fotos e fizemos uns filmezinhos. Estava tudo muito lindo mesmo que o tão famoso pinheiro ainda não estivesse decorado.

We also went to Rockefeller Plaza to see Christmas decorations where we met Raluca and Cristi (our Romanian’s friends). We took some pictures and did some videos. And even if the famous Christmas Evergreen tree wasn’t decorated yet, everything was very beautiful.

De lá fomos juntos ao Times Square. Estava MUITO cheio, uma loucura! Tiramos também umas fotos, mas definitivamente, fotos à noite não expressam a metade da beleza que vemos a olhos nus. Tentando tornar o programa mais atraente para a Aice, aproveitamos para visitar a loja do M&M’s (acreditem, três andares de M&M’s!). Mas, como podem imaginar, estava MUITO cheia e quase não conseguíamos caminhar. É claro que não conseguimos ver quase nada.
From the Rockefeller Plaza we went together to Times Square. It was very crazy and crowded! I took some pictures, but definitively, pictures at night can’t show the real perception of the scene. Looking for something more exciting to Alice we went to the M&M’s store (it has three floors!). But, as you can imagine, it was so crowded that we found it difficult to walk inside the store. Of course we couldn’t see all the things.

Colado a Times Square tem a Broadway com suas casas de espetáculos. Nós não assistimos a nenhum, mas enquanto passávamos por lá vimos o cartaz de um musical do Monty Python. Lembramos dos nossos amigos. Especialmente dos colegas da Física!

Close to Times Square is Broadway Street with lots of theaters. We didn’t watch any but while we were walking we saw the Monty Pythonn’s Musical Billboard and we remembered some of our friends. Specially those from the Physics Course! Hehehehehe….

Ao voltarmos para o hotel jantamos para celebrar o Thanksgiving. Tivemos um dia delicioso e a isso pudemos agradecer.
When we got back to the hotel we had our Thanksgiving dinner. We had a lovely day and we could say thanks for that.

Nosso primeiro dia de feriado terminou. Aguardem a segunda parte da nossa aventura por Nova Iorque!
The first day was finished. Just wait for the second part of our adventure in NY City!
