DC again

No último domingo fomos novamente passear em Washington. Fomos com o Alexandre e Camila. Estava muito bom.
Last weekend we went to Washington DC once again. Camila and Alexandre went with us. It was nice.

Como da outra vez, fomos de carro até a estação do metrô e seguimos de metrô até DC. Desta vez fomos conhecer alguns dos memoriais.
Like the last time we had been there, we drove to the metro station and took a subway.

Primeiro fomos até o Memorial de Lincoln. É uma construção muito grande.
This time we visited some memorial monuments. First of all we went to Lincoln Memorial. It is a huge building.

Do memorial pode-se ver o Monumento à Washington.
From the Lincoln memorial we can see Washington Monument.

Dos fundo do memorial se vê parte de Washington.

De lá fomos caminhando, contornando a bacia Tidal (Tidal Basin) até o Memorial à Franklin Roosvelt.

From there we walked around the Tidal basin to the Roosvelt Memorial.

Dentre os vários atrativos do Memorial à Roosevelt vimos uma escultura do próprio Roosvelet com sua cadela Fala. Dizem que dá sorte passar as mãos nas orelhas da cadela e no dedo do presidente. É claro que não arriscamos a má sorte! Engraçado por que toda a escultura estava escura do tempo, mas as orelhas e o dedo estavam bem brilhantes!

Amongst many attractions in the Roosevelt Memorial we could see a sculpture of him and his dog Fala too. People say that it is a good luck to hit his finger and his dog’s ears. Of course we did it! The funny thing is that the whole sculpture was dirty because of the weather, but, the president’s finger and the dog’s ears were clean. They were very shinny.

E depois fomos até o Memorial de Thomas Jefferson. Todos os memoriais enormes.

We then went to the Jefferson Memorial. They are all very huge.

No caminho entre os memoriais passamos pelo Korean War Veterans Memorial. Lá tinha a seguinte inscrição em uma pedra: Freedom is not free. Essa é pára pensar, né?

On the way to Roosvelt's and Jefferson's memorials we passed through the Korean War Veterans Memorial. We could read in a stone: Freedom is not free. That sentence makes us think, don’t it?

Achei interessante também que ao longo do memorial à Roosevelt tinha umas pedras. E nelas estava escrito o seguinte: I HATE WAR.

I found rather interesting that, at the Roosvelt Memorial, a stone had the following statement engraved: I HATE WAR.

Esse, também, é um país de contradições! This country, has, also, got contradictions!

Depois dos memoriais fomos novamente ao Museu de História Natural – Camila ainda não conhecia. Dessa vez tiramos uma foto lá.

After our visit to the memorials we went, once again, to the Natural History Museum – Camila hadn’t been there yet. This time we took some pictures there.

E, finalmente, chegamos a Manassas. Já estava noite e resolvemos jantar. Observem o chão do restaurante. Todos comem os amendoins (no centro da mesa tem um baldinho cheio de amendoim) e jogam a casca no chão. Pobre funcionário que limpa no final do dia! We finally arrived at Manassas.

We went to dinner because it was already night time. Have a look at the restaurant floor. Everybody eats the peanuts (at the middle of the table there is a bucket with peanuts) and throw the peels on the floor. The poor employee has to clean up all this mess at the end of the day!
