She turned years! - Peyto Lake

In our way back to Calgary we stopped by Bow Summit (approximately 2100 m high) which is the highest point along the Icefield Parkway and from where you can see Peyto Lake.

Many friends had already told us about the beauty of this lake, so we decided to stop by and check it.
And....no word for that.

She turned years! - Train

Em Jasper, nós fizemos um passeio super legal de trem. Pegamos um trem para um passeio de duas horas. O trem - que é de linha - sai de Edmonton (capital da provícnia), passa por Jasper e vai até Vaoncouver (em BC). Uma empresa de turismo arranja o passeio para o quem tem interesse em fazer só parte do trajeto e busca o pessoal em uma das estações, levando de volta para Jasper em um shuttle. Nós adoramos o passeio e demos muita sorte por que o dia estava lindo e com um colorido especial típico do outono canadense.

Nós conseguimos um lugarzinho no vagão de cima que é todo envidraçado. A vista.....sem palavras!

I know, I am pretty late on posts, but I didn`t forget her birthday. To celebrate Marisa`s birthday we decided to go to Jasper. Jasper is a small town inside Jasper`s National Park and around 400km far from Calgary through NW. The highway to get there is wonderful and is called Icefield Parkway.

Quico`s new job and etc...

Já falei que o Quico está em trabalho novo (escola privada), né? E que até terno precisa usar de vez em quando - e que gatão fica! Pois bem, alguns dias depois que o Arthur nasceu ele também recebeu mais uma boa notícia: a certificação de professor daqui de Alberta. Agora já é professor certificado e pode trabalhar em qualquer escola da província. Mais um grande passo! - Eu ainda preciso refazer o Toefl.

No mês passado o Quico também comprou um carro novo. Estava complicado para ele ir trabalhar de carro e nos deixar a pé. Sempre que precisávamos do carro a Marisa tinha que levá-lo até a escola e, na volta, ou ele voltava de ônibus e a pé, ou buscávamos ele. Com o inverno chegando essa aventura estava ficando mais complicada. Então o Quico deciciu por comprar um carro novo.

Agora preciso me cuidar ainda mais com o maridão bonitão em um carrão. Acho que vou comprar um sticker "Baby a bord". hahaha...

Semana Farroupilha em Calgary

Pois é, podem acreditar, se quiserem! Em setembro, um gaúcho que mora aqui em Calgary, o Marcos, resolveu tomar a iniciativa de comemorar com outros gaúchos e também não gaúchos, a Semana Farroupilha. Foram alguns eventos incluido carreteiro e feijoada campeira. Só pudemos participar da feijoada campeira que aconteceu em um lindo parque daqui de Calgary, o North Glenmore Park. O dia estava lindo, de verão, com temperatura por volta dos 30 graus!

Quem diria?!?

Quem diria que um dia eu fosse ver o Quico vestido assim? Pois é, depois de 16 anos juntos nunca vi o cara usando qualquer coisa próxima a uma gravata!
E não é que ele ficou lindão?

Hoje foi o primeiro dia de escola (com os alunos) no trabalho novo dele, uma escola particular daqui de Calgary. É uma escola pequena que lembra o Panamerican quando ele começou a trabalhar lá. Tem aproximadamente 120 alunos desde o pre-school até o high school.

Nesta primeira semana de aula e em outras datas especiais os alunos precisam usar uniforme e os professores homens, no caso, terno.
Preciso me cuidar com o maridão!!!

Bow River rafting

It was 2 weeks ago. Quico, Alice and Marisa, Ravi, Eliane and Paulo, Augusto and Sandra made their way down the Bow river in a boat. This is a very Calgarian trip. Here you can check the pictures!
Foi ha duas semanas atras. O Quico, Alice e Marisa, o Ravi, a Eliane e o Paulo, o Augusto e a Sandra foram fazer um passeio bem tipico de Calgary: descer o Bow river num bote inflavel. Eh soh esquentar um pouco que o pessoal comeca a fazer esse passeio. Alguns alugam os botes, como nos, e outros vao no seu proprio. Parece que foi bem divertido. Da proxima vez quero ir tambem! Seguem as fotinhos da aventura.

Last Friday we decided to take the day to go to Lake Louise and to Moraine Lake. Marisa had been there only when water was freezing. So she hadn’t seen all beauty of the place.

Did I tell you that we are going to use cloth diapers in Arthur?
Yes! But don’t worry because cloth diapers that you can find nowadays are not like those from old days!
They are beautiful and easy to use and wash.
Eu já contei para vocês que usaremos fraldas de pano no Arthurzinho?
Pois é, mas não se assustem por que as fraldas de pano de hoje em dia são bem diferentes daquelas que nós mesminhos usamos! Hahahah....elas são práticas de lavar, de colocar e ainda por cima são lindas!

The idea came when I was reading in Ana’s blog about it. She was using a part cloth and part disposable diapers. She said that it was easy to use and I also love the environmental idea behind it. So, I started to read more about it and then decided to use it.
I am planning to use them at home and use disposable when leaving home.
A idéia de usar fraldas de pano surgiu quando eu li sobre a experiência da Ana no blog dela. Ela usou meio a meio, pano e descartável. Achei interessante e adoro a idéia de poluir menos. Essa é a minha maior motivação: environment. Então comecei a pesquisar mais sobre o assunto e decidi usar. Pretendemos usar em casa as de pano e para sair as descartáveis.

Some I bought from Little Tree Huggers (online store). They have a free consultant service where you can see and touch the diapers as well understand about the differences between them, etc. I met the consultant here in Calgary and then choose those:

AMP Hemp Fitted Diaper: this kind are good for newborns babies

AMP Bamboo Insert: you can use them inside fitted diapers and inside pocket diapers to protect more and make it easier to clean up.

Covers for fitted diaperes. Calças plásticas.

Thirsties Duo Diaper: they have a pocket to use the inserts and for them you don't need any cover.

I also bought some diapers from Enfant Style Diapers (online store) where I found good prices for the brands I was looking for.

These two are a fitted Kissaluvs Cloth Diaper

A friend also gave me about 10 diapers that she had used in her daughter. This is another advantage from cloth diapers: they can be used many times and for more than one child. Those are from Kushies but fit only babies three months old and up.

Summer Day: Bowness Park

Some days ago we went to Bowness Park to enjoy the beautiful sunny day. Although the park is not too far from our house we had never been there before. The park is really beautiful and we had a wonderful day there. The park is by Bowness river, it has a big picnic and barbecue area and a pond where you can rent a boat .

Há uns dias atrás nós fomos passear no Bowness Park. Apesar de ficar não muito longe de casa (fica no NW) nós nunca tínhamos ido lá. O parque é muito lindo, fica nas margens do rio Bowness, tem uma enorme área para piquenique e churrasco, um laguinho com pedalinhos e barcos para alugar. Tem ainda uma área verde bem grande para descansar e brincar.

Alice invited her friend Olivia to come over with us. They had fun playing in the pond, boating (Quico rented a boat for them) and having girly talking.

A Alice convidou a amiga dela Olivia para ir lá conosco. Elas se divertiram brincando no lago (não chegaram a nadar por que a água estava gelada), remando no barco que o Quico alugou e conversando muito!

Stampede Rodeo

During Stampede events Krista (our lovely host family) invited us to watch a rodeo at Stampede Park. Even though rodeo is not our favorite program we accepted the invitation as it was very sweet from Krista to find free tickets for us and also because it is a very Calgarian event.

Durante as comemorações do Stampede a Krista (nossa família anfitriã canadense) nos convidou para assistir a um rodeio no parque do Stampede. Apesar de não gostarmos muito de rodeio nós aceitamos o convite pois achamos muito queido da parte dela ir atrás de ingressos free para a gente e ainda por que é um evento muito calgariano.

Mountain bike!

Yes, I know that I am late with my postings, but anyway I think I couldn’t miss this one. So, let’s go!
In June (yes, almost two months ago!) Quico went to “the Rockies” for a bike adventure with triplets’s family and friends. Bia’s brother and some friends came from Brazil just to have a week of fun mountain biking in Alberta!
Isso mesmo, eu sei que estou um tanto atrasada com as postagens aqui no blog, mas de qualquer forma não queria perder essa e por isso estou postando bem tarde. Em junho o Quico, a família dos tri e amigos foram fazer um delicioso passeio de bicileta: mountain bike nas Rockies. O irmão da Bia e mais alguns amigos vieram do Brasil especialmente para este passeio de uma semana. O Quico, no entanto, participou apenas do primeiro dia.

Octavio’s and Bia’s landlord, neighbour and friend is a bike addict and had planned the whole adventure: one trail for each day. He also lent Quico a bike (you can’t do this kind of trail on any kind of bike…) so he could join them in the first day. You can check the whole adventure and story at “Os trigêmeos blog”.
O proprietário da casa dos tri (o Don), vizinho deles e amigo é fanático por bicis e fez todo o planejamento da aventura deles: uma trilha para cada dia. Ele também emprestou uma bici para o Quico (afinal, não dá para ser em qq uma para fazer uma trilha dessas!). Se quiserem ver mais fotos e saber mais detalhes da aventura dêem uma checada no blog dos trigêmeos.

The trail began at Barrier Lake, in Kananaskis. They climbed approximately 600 metres getting at the top to enjoy the wonderful view of the Kananaskis valley and lakes. Some parts of the trail were so steep that they had to get off the bike and carry it on their shoulders!

I guess the effort was compensated by the view they found at the top.

A trilha iniciou no Barrier Lake em Kananaskis (um pouco antes de Baff). A subida foi de aproximadamente 600m, mas em algumas partes tão íngremes que tiveram que carregar a bici nos ombros!

Parece que a vista compensou todo o esforço.

At the top there is also a Fire Look point which s used to check out for fire points around the valley. Interesting….

No topo da montanha tem um Fire Look que é um ponto usado para a observação de possíveis focos de incêndio na área. A vista é tão boa (quando o tempo ajuda) que dá até para enchergar Calgary!

The descent trail was through Jewel Pass through a forest area and as Quico told me it was harder than going uphill as he was feeling that he would be loose bike’s control and fall down anytime.

A descida foi por uma trilha chamada Jewl Pass através da mata. O Quico disse que a volta foi mais difícil por que dava a impressão de que iria cair a qualquer momento da bici e levar um tombão. Precisou frear tanto que ficou com as mãos enferidadas no final do dia.

To end the day, we all met at Bia and Octavio’s house for a delicious dinner with bier and wine. Wow! I hope there will be a second version of this adventure.

Olhando as fotos das bikes dá para ter uma idéia de como ficaram os ciclistas! À noite fomos jantar na casa dos tri e tomar cerveja e vinho para relaxar (não que eu tenha me cansado nesse passeio – hahaha). Estava uma delícia!

Here we are at our 34 pregnancy weeks!
Aqui estamos nós na nossa 34a. semana de gravidez!

In our last ultrasound the doctors found that Arthur is already upside down - right position for delivery and that his right kidney is still located at pelvis, but working perfectly.
Neste último ultrasom os médicos observaram que o Arthur já está posicionado para o parto (de cabeça para baixo) e que o rim direito, que continua localizado na pelvis, está funcionando normalmente.

In this picture Arthur has his fingers on his lips! So cute…

Our baby is getting bigger and is weighing around 2.5 kg! Wow! He still has 6 more weeks to get fatter. I hope he will not be too big!
Nosso bebê está crescendo e já está com 2,5 kg! Uau! Ele ainda tem 6 semanas para engordar. Só espero que ele não fique grande demais!

In this ultrasound picture Arthur is saying hello. The technician wrote Hi (Oi) in Portuguese!

Canada Day and Calgary Stampede Breakfast

Last Friday, 1st of July, was Canada Day which is the national day of Canada and a statutory holiday. This year Canada was celebrating the 144 years since the Constitution Act of 1867 which united all colonies to a single country, within the British Empire. (More in Wikipedia)
Na última sexta-feira foi feriado por aqui: Canada Day. Este é o dia em que os canadenses comemoram a “ formação” do Canadá como um país único. Neste ano fazem 144 anos do ato constitucional que uniu todas as colônias formando, então, um país único, o Canadá. Para mais ver Wikipedia.

We would like to celebrate the date outdoors with all Canadians, but this day Alice and I slept until 11 o’clock! In the evening we had here Marina, Denis and Darina and Ravi for a barbecue. So we didn’t anything specially Canadian this day. Maybe next year!
Nós gostaríamos de comemorar a data, na rua, com os canadenses, mas eu e a Alice dormimos demais e à tarde já tínhamos planejado um churrasco aqui em casa com a Marina, Denis, Darina e Ravi. Então, acabamos não fazendo nada especialmente canadense na data. Quem sabe no próximo ano?

On Sunday we had a free breakfast (pancakes, fruits, juice, coffee, eggs…) from Calgary Stampede at Winter Club’s parking lot. Joylin, Viena’s mom, invited us to join them in the breakfast, so we went there. It was delicious and as you can see from the pictures, the weather was great! – Always talking about the weather…. Someone have a guess why?... hahahaha…
No domingo nós fomos comer um café da manhã free no estacionamento do Winter Club (clube privado) como parte das comemorações do Stampede (ver primeiro post sobre o Stampede). A mãe da Viena nos convidou para nos juntarmos a eles para este delicioso café da manhã. Tivemos direito a panquecas (com syrup, é claro!), ovos mexidos, suco, frutas, café, etc... Além disso o tempo estava ótimo! – Sempre falando do tempo, né? Por que será?????.

This week we finished the wall's painting, put the blinder and built the crib we bought from Soraya and Ravi. We still have some little things to organize in our bedroom (and now Arthur's bedroom too) like put some shelves over the dressers and hang up some fabric frames that matches with the crib set.
Nesta semana nós terminamos de pintar o nosso quarto (e agora também do Arthur) - que tinha uma cor muito escura - colocamos uma persiana na janela e montamos o berço do fofo. Ainda temos algumas coisinhas para arrumar no quarto, como as prateleiras sob as cômadas e uns enfeites que fazem parte do kit do berço.

New hair

There was a while Alice was asking to us to make some color highligths in her hair. She has some classmates that do that, and so she wanted it too. Those highlights are not permanently and come out washing sometimes. Last week she finally had her hair colored with blue.
Faz um tempinho que a Alice nos pede para fazer umas mechas coloridas nos cabelos. Ela tem vários colegas que fazem de vez em quando. Então, finalmente na semana passada nós fomos fazer as tais das mechas. Estas mechas não são daquelas que precisam descolorir o cabelo e por isso saem depois de algumas lavagens.

She was so happy because of it! Just have a lookt to her smile!

70's party: school year-end dance

The school year is ending and to celebrate its success Alice’s school had a School Year-End Family Party. It was a dancing party in 70’s year’s style.

O ano escolar está acabando e para comemorar o sucesso deste último na escola da Alice resolveram chamar as famílias para uma festa à “la anos 70”.

Alice was very excited about it and then we had no choice unless have fun there. And, of course, another good reason was to help to raise money for school.

A Alice, para variar, estava muito faceira em participar e por isso não pudemos deixar de ir. É claro que a também poder ajudar a escola a arrecadar dinheiro é uma boa razão para ir à festa!

Callaway Park

Two weeks ago we went to Callaway Park, which is an amusement park in Calgary. We bought a year (from May to ??? – October, I guess) tickets so we can spend many summer (and vacation) days having fun there.
Há duas semanas atrás nós fomos, finalmente, no Callaway Park, que é um parque de diversões daqui de Calgary. Nós compramos entradas para o ano todo (que vai de maio até, acho eu, outubro – quando o parque fecha devido o frio). Poderemos então, aproveitar bastante do verão e das férias escolares nos divertindo no parque.

Unfortunately I couldn’t ride at all because I am having too many contractions and I am afraid about it. Quico is afraid of heights, so Alice had to ride alone most of the time. Next time it will be better having a friend with her.
Infelizmente eu não pude andar em nenhum dos brinquedos pois tenho tido muitas contrações e fiquei com medo de abusar... O Quico tem medo de altura e por isso a Alice teve que ir sozinha na maioria dos brinquedos. Da próxima vez será mais legal se levarmos alguma amiga junto.

Father's day

Here, differently from Brazil, father’s day was celebrated last Sunday. Alice, as always, used the date as a good excuse to sleep with her daddy! So, I was excluded from the "club"and had to sleep in her bedroom! Hahaha…
Aqui no Canadá o dia dos pais é comemorado em outra data. Não sei ao certo se é no segundo domingo de junho. Em todos os casos, neste ano, foi no domingo passado. Como de costume, a Alice aproveitou a desculpa para dormir com o papai. Fui expulsa do quarto e tive que dormir no quarto dela! Hahahaha...

In the morning I helped her to prepare a delicious and special breakfast for Quico. We made pancakes, bacons, fruit salad and coffee. Everything was delicious! Yummy!!!!

Na manhã de domingo eu ajudei ela a preparer um café da manhã especial para o papai. Nós fizemos panquecas e salada de frutas, fritamos bacon e fizemos café. Estava tudo delicioso!

She also gave to him a beautiful card and some presents she made. Here they are!

A Alice também entregou um lindo cartão e alguns presentinhos que ela mesma preparou para o papai. É claro que o Arthur também colaborou com os presentes!

I am not sure if the summer really had arrived around here, but I am pretty sure that today was the longest day of the year in the north hemisphere. So I took a picture from our kitchen window at 10 pm. This is what you can see.

Yes, we are growing up... My belly, as Alice like to say, is puffed!
We are now in the thirtieth week of pregnancy which means we still have (or only have?) ten more weeks to finally hold our baby! I can’t wait anymore!

I decided to split my Baby shower in two parts: the first one for Brazilians and the second one (which I am planning to August when Marisa will be here too) for English and other languages speakers.

Eu decidi comemorar o nosso (meu e do Arthur) chá de fraldas em dois. O primeiro para as brasileiras e o segundo para as amigas que falam inglês e outras línguas. Também por que gostaria que a Marisa participasse e ela só chega em agosto.

Cecilia and Soraya offered to organize it. I found it a great idea!

A Cecília e a Soraya se ofereceram para organizar tudo e eu achei ótimo.

It was last Saturday (June 11th) at Cecilia’s house. It was wonderful. I had a happy time and I was very glad to know I have friends like them!

O chá foi no sábado passado, dia 11 de junho, na casa da Cecília. Estava tudo ótimo. Eu adorei tudo e fiquei muito feliz em saber que tenho amigas tão legais aqui!

RV: Cannyons

This is the Maligne Cannyon, in Jasper. There is a long path way along the cannyon so you can reach, walking, its bottom. I was said because I couldn't go the way down. I wasn't sure if I would be able to make the way up back! hahahaha....Maybe next time!

In our way back home we stopped to hav a look at Athabaska falls and cannyon.

RV: Going to Jasper...

From Lake Louise (Banff National Park) to Jasper (Jasper Nattional Park) we drove through Icefields Parkway – a lovely highway – with approximately 300 km and which took us 4 hours trip.

You can check in the map bellow the path from Calgary to Banff and from Banff to Jasper to have an idea how far it is.

Do Lake Louise (que fica no Parque Nac de Banff) até Jasper (que fica no parque nac. de Jasper) fomos dirigindo pela estrada Icefields Parkway que é uma estrada LINDA, de aproximadamente 300km e que nos tomou mais ou menos 4 horas de viagem. O mapa abaixo dá uma idéia do trajeto.

The big point of the journey was the BEAR!!!!! Yes, we HAD to stop by because we saw a black bear happily and freely eating some fruits beside the highway. I could stay there watching him for much longer….so beautiful and peaceful it was!
O ponto máximo da viagem foi encontrar um urso (black bear) na beira da estrada! Nós paramos para ver o urso que estava comendo calmamente umas frutinhas. Eu podia ficar por ali por muito tempo, admirando a beleza daquela situação: um urso solto na natureza. Lindo demais!

In this picture you can have an idea how close the bear was from the highway. I know…I know….I didn’t suppose to be out of the car, so close to the bear, but there were lot of people there and it was just… irresistible ! hahahaha…

Na foto debaixo dá para terem uma idéia de quão perto o urso estava. Eu sei, eu sei...que não deveríamos ter descido do carro, mas era, simplesmente irresistível! hahahaha...E além disso estava todo mundo parado fora do carro, então pensamos: se o urso atacar alguém, não será a gente, né? hehehehe...

The video shows another bear we saw in our way back to Calgary. PLAY it!

Alice was luckier than we were, because she also saw a Grizzly bear in the way. She was in the triplets RV (we lost them in the way…). You can check the pictures of Grizzly bear (and others from the trip) in the triplets’ blog and Ravi’s blog too. So you can have different versions of the story....hehhehe

A Alice foi mais sortuda que a gente pois ela também viu - estava no Rv dos tri - um Grizlly bear (que é bem maior, igual ao Boo, lembram?). RV: Banff's hot springs

As I said, before move on to Jasper we passed by Banff’s hot springs for a bath. Only dads and children got inside. Moms waited having a nice time talking and enjoying the sun.

Como disse anterirmente, antes de seguirmos a viagem até Jasper, demos uma paradinha nas águas quentes de Banff para tomar um banho. Os papais é que entraram na água com os filhotes. As mamães aproveitaram para ficar conversando e lagarteando no sol! hehehehe....

RV: Banff's camping ground

On May 23rd was holiday here in Canada: Victoria’s day. So we had a loooong weekend. Talking to some friends, Octavio & Bia and Ravi & Soraya we decided to go to Jasper in a small trip together. Each family rented a RV and then we went!

No dia 23 de maio foi feriado por aqui e tivemos então um feriadão. Para aproveitar resolvemos em conjunto com a família do Octavio e Bia e Ravi e Soraya fazermos um passeio até Jasper em um (ou melhor, três) motorhome alugado.

Our adventure started on Friday morning, the 20^th of May packing everything into our new moving home.

Nossa aventura começou na sexta-feira pela manhã quando carregamos a casa móvel!

We went then, directly to the camping ground in Banff where we slept for one night. We got a little frustrated when we found in the camping entrance this sign:

Ficamos um pouco frustrados quando vimos o aviso abaixo na entrada do camping the Banff, aonde fomos passar a primeira noite.

Never mind, we had some beer, yes, very careful, in some coffee cups…hehehhehe....

Mas, tudo bem....acabamos sim, tomando umas cervejinhas em xícaras de café! hahahaha....

The children were really free, walking, running and biking around the camping ground. They had lots of fun! … and so we did too.

As crianças ficaram soltas: caminharam, correram, andaram de bici e até se "perderam" no camping. Eles aproveitaram muito! - é claro, nós também!

We had barbecue and marshmallow in the fire pity and had a wonderful and silence nigh around the trees and surrounded by Rockies!

Nós fizemos churrasco e commos marshmallows no fire pity e tivemos uma noite silenciosa no meio das árvores e rodeados pelas montanhas!

In the morning a breakfast and then moving on to our destination: Jasper.
Pela manhã, café da manhã ao ar livre...e preparação para o próximo destino: Jasper.

He turned 45 and we didn’t celebrate as we would like to. His birthday was on a Wednesday, which is his worst week day: he has to wake up around 4 am and come back home around 9 pm. So we decided just to keep things simple: have a dinner at home and have an apple pie!

O Quico fez 45 anos e nós nem conseguimos comemorar como gostaríamos. O aniver dele caiu numa quarta-feira, que é o pior dia dele: acorda por volta das 4 da manhã e só chega em casa pelas 9 da noite! Por isso decidimos não fazer nada especial, apenas, é claro, uma torta de maçã.

Alice was a little frustrated in not being able to prepare his breakfast. Maybe for father’s day – here it is celebrated in June – she will make it!

A Alice ficou um pouco frustrada de não poder preparar o café da manhã dele. Mas fazer o quê, né? Às 4 da manhã não tem jeito, né? Quem sabe para o dia dos pais – que aqui é em junho – ela consiga preparar?

There are so many things I want to share with you and need to update here in the blog, but I am not just finding the time and energy to do it! I will try to keep you updated about everything during the next weeks. Lately my energy is going only to baby stuff!
Eu tenho tantas coisas que queria dividir e contra para vocês, mas não tenho achado tempo nem disposição para isso ultimamente. Minha cabeça está tomada sobre o assunto bebê!

I want to talk about:Quico´s birthday; the courses we are taking in the University – and books we are reading; the efforts everybody is doing to cleaning the city after the loooonnng winter; the volunteer appreciation day in Alice’s school; our new barbecue…..and so many other things….
Eu queria fazer postagens sobre o anive do Quico; sobre as cadeiras que estamos fazendo na Universidade; sobre a limpeza da cidade depois do looooongo inverno; sobre a festinha para os voluntários na escola da Alice; nossa churrasqueira...e muitas outras coisas....

Today I will just keep you updated with my belly picture. So many of you asked me to post a picture of it. So here there are.
Hoje eu vou apenas postar umas fotinhos da minha barriga já que várias pessoas me pediram isso. Então aí vai.

Yes, little Arthur is growing fast (and so do I). Now we are in our 27th pregnancy week. He is probably weigthing 1 kg (2 pounds) and , from now, just need to grow. I had already got 8 extras kilos. Now I need to keep my mouth closed to carvings stuffs! Sniff…..

Sim, o Arthurzinho está crescendo rápido (e eu tbm!). Estamos entrando na nossa 27ª semana de gravidez e ele deve estar pesando por volta de 1 kg. De agora em diante, só precisa crescer. Eu, por sua vez, já engordei 8 kilos! Então, de agora em diante, preciso manter a minha boca fechada para os desejos de comer bobagens, doces e bolachas! Se não.....não sei aonde vou parar!

Mother's day

Today was mother’s day but for me the celebration began yesterday . Alice slept all night with me (and Night, of course!) and today she woke me up with a delicious breakfast. Quico made some pancakes and she made the dresser: melted lindt chocolate with milk. Yummy!
She made lots of gifts and lovely cards for me too. So cute! And Quico gave some flowers too!

O meu dia das mãe começou ontem quando a Alice resolveu dormir comigo a noite inteira! . Hoje então, fui acordada com beijos, presentes e café da manhã na cama. Uma delícia! Também ganhei lindas flores do Quico, Alice e Arthur.

In the afternoon we met with triplets’ family to enjoy an Earth Science exhibition.

Kid had some hands-on activities and demonstrations about science.

À tarde nós nos encontramos em downtown com a família dos tri. Fomos a uma exibição de ciências com atividades mão-na-massa para a gurizada.

They found some fossils dated as several hundred million years old...

Spring: a day in a park – 2

As I said before we are enjoying the most we can the outdoors! And, as you know, we live very close to Confederation Park where we use to walk or bike whenever we can.

This weekend we went to Confederation more then once. On Sunday we decided to have our lunch there, enjoying the sun on our bodies!
Como já disse anteriormente nós estamos aproveitando ao máximo a rua, o ar fresco e o calor do sol! Como sabem também, nós moramos bem pertinho do Confederation Park e vamos passear lá sempre que dá. Neste final de semana fomos mais de uma vez e no domingo resolvemos até almoçar por lá. Pegando o sol na cara. Que delícia!!!!!

Spring: a day in a park – 1

Since the spring came - and when it is not snowing - we go outdoors. We’ve been trying to enjoy the most the weather and the sun. It has been delicious!

The other weekend we went to Elbow Island Park, close to downtown. There is a bike path along the river where Alice and Quico bicycled and I walked.
Desde que a primavera mostrou sua cara nós temos tentado aproveitar o máximo a rua. Quando o tempo ajuda e não está nevando, saímos e pegarmos um pouco de sol e sentimos o ar fresco. Uma delícia!

No final de semana retrasado nós fomos passear na beira do rio Elbow, quase em downtown. Ao longo do rio tem uma ciclo-via aonde a Alice e o Quico pedalaram e eu caminhei.

This place remembers, in some how, our place in Brazil with some nice houses along one side of the river.

O lugar lembra um pouco a Ponta Grossa pois tem várias casas legais na beira do rio.

Here Alice got stuck in the ice. Quico had to rescue her! Hahahaha….
Aqui a Alice precisou ser resgatada pelo Quico. Fico presa no gelo! Hahahahaha....

Read-A-Thon week

This week happened the reading fest for children at Alice’s school: Rosemont School Read-A-Thon week! This fest is to embraces and promotes the joy of learning and reading by encouraging the kids to read at home while continuing to encourage and promote reading at school.

Esta semana foi dedicada à leitura na escola da Alice: Rosemont School Read-A-Thon week! Este festival temo objetivo de promover o prazer pela leitura incentivando os alunos a lerem em casa.

The children were recommended to read, at home, each night of the Read-A-Thon week and to write down the minutes they read in their agenda. By the end of the week they would check how many minutes each classroom had read - as a classrooms reading competition. Alice, as usual, got the task very seriously. Every night she went to bed with her book and my cel to check the time. One night she read 40 minutes! Yesterday, however she asked me to read to her. We are reading togheter "Viagem ao Céu" (Voyage to the Sky ) from Monteiro Lobato, a very famous Brazilian children's writer.

As crianças deveriam ler todas as noites e anotar os minutos que leram em uma tabela da agenda. Nofinal da semana iam comparar qual turma leu mais minutos em uma forma de competição. A Alice, como sempre, se dedicou seriamente a essa proposta. Todos os dias ia para cama com o livro e o meu celular para contar o tempo. Teve uma noite que chegou a ler 40 minutos! Ontem ela preferiu que eu lesse para ela. Estamos lendo Viagem ao Céu de Monteiro Lobato. Ela está curtindo apesar de ter uma linguagem difícil e, muitas vezes antiquada. Acho engraçado por que ela não entende algumas expressões que não se usa mais, como por exemplo: " tocar de casa o animal".

Yesterday they celebrated reading and books through an author and storyteller visit. Simon Rose, a children author, visited the school and spoke to children about his books and the writing process. Alice bought two of his books and had them signed by him.

Ontem a escola recebeu um autor de livros infantis, Simon Rose, que conversou com a gurizada sobre os livros dele. Depois a Alice acabou comprando dois dos livros dele com direito a dedicatória!

To close the Read-A-Thon week, today, the students were invited to dress up as their favourite literary character. Alice chose to dress up as a Christmas Angel from Pearlie and the Christmas Angel story by Wendy Harmer.

Para fechar a semana dedicada à literatura, as crianças foram convidadas a irem para a escola fantasiadas como um personagem de livro. A Alice escolheu ser a "anjinha do Natal" da estória da Pérola e o Anjo de Wendy Harmer. É claro que ela escolheu a roupa e decidiu a fantasia. Tudo sozinha!

Wonderful Saturday in Banff

This Saturday we went to Banff for the day. Olivia, Alice’s friend, went there with us so Alice had much more fun!

The weather was great and we could enjoy a lot outdoors!

Neste sábado, véspera de Páscoa, nós fomos passear em Banff. A Olívia, amiga da Alice, foi conosco e assim a Alice aproveitou muito mais. O tempo estava ótimo e pudemos caminhar bastante na beira do rio e na rua!

Primavera!

Even though the spring doesn’t look like – at all- as anything we are used to call spring, Calgaryans, and us, are already living in a spring mood!!!

The temperature is much warmer and we can already feel the hot comming from the sun. The only problem is when we forget to dress up appropriately! Hehehhee….

Apesar de a primavera ainda não se parecer em nada com aquilo que estamos acostumados a chamar de primavera, os calgarianos e nós, já estamos vivendo o espírito primaveril! As temperaturas já estão bem mais amenas e quando o sol brilha conseguimos sentir o prazer do seu calorzinho. O problema é que entramos no ritmo e, às vezes, nos esquecemos de nos agasalhar apropriadamente. Hehehehe....

Swimming lessons at school

All this last week Alice and her classmates went to SAIT (a college close to here) to their swimming experience as part of the Physical Education Program. Quico and I went with them two days for help children in the dressing room.
Nesta semana que passou a Alice participou do programa de natação da escola. Faz parte das diversas atividades (dança, patinação, etx...) do programa de educação física. O Quico e eu voluntariamos dois dias para ajudar a gurizada no vestiário.

This last Sunday was great!
We went to the triplets house where we had a marvelous barbecue outdoors, at the sun!
Yes, the weather was great too!
Neste último domingo nós fomos comer um delicioso churrasco na casa dos tri. O tempo estava ótimo e ficamos o máximo que podíamos na rua curtindo o sol.

The kids enjoyed to play outdoors and even played without shoes and with water.
In the afternoon Octavio did a fire at a fireplace and when kids enjoyed some marshmallows.
As crianças aproveitaram bastante e brincaram bastante no pátio. Até de pé descalço ficaram.
Mais no final da tarde o Octavio fez um foguinho no pátio ande as crianças esquentaram seus marshmallows.

Everything was wonderful!
Seem that we got – finally – in to the spring!

At the first time we went to Banff it was happening the Sculpture Competition at the Lake Louise. We tried to see it but it was incredible crowded.

Na primeira vez que fomos à Banff chegamos a ir até o Lago mas estava tendo uma competição de esculturas de gelo e por isso estava impraticável chegar perto de tanta gente. Decidimos então voltar dois finais de semana depois.

Hip-Hop in the School

During all this week Rosemont School resided a Decidedly Jazz Danceworks group which worked with the children creative movement with a focus on fusion and hip-hop dance styles.
Durante esta semana a escola da Alice recebeu um grupo de dança - Decidedly Jazz Danceworks -que trabalhou com as crianças a criatividade de movimentos focando no estilo Hip-Hop.

This Monday Alice shaked my belly which, I guess, made Arthur happy! So he decided to kick me to show up to her. She put her little hands on my belly and could feel for the first time her brother.
Nesta segunda a Alice estava brincando com aminha barriga e pode sentir pela primeira vez as chutadas do maninho. Também foi a primeira vez que senti, com 100% de certeza, o movimento do bebê.

April fool

On Friday I woke up as fool! Alice and Isabella made me foolish sticking some tape in our bedroom door.

The girls were VERY excited about it! They laughed a lot.

Later, they asked me to put some pepper in Quico’s pancakes, so he was foolished too.

They were so excited about today! Later I also couldn’t find my bath towels and either some clothes. Crazy girls!

Today we had another ultrasound. Alice and Quico went with me to check if everything was right with the baby and to find that we are going to be a mom, a dad and a big sister of a BOY!

Yes, I will have to focus in the boy stores’ department.
Hoje nós fizemos uma ecografia para ver se tudo está bem como o nosso bebê e também para descobrir que seremos papais e irmãzinha de um GURI!
Isso mesmo, vou ter que focar o meu olhar na secção masculina das lojas.

Ice Skating Show

Yesterday was the last day of Alice’s ice skating classes and to end it they performed some routines. After the presentation the rink was open for a family ice skating time!
Ontem, sábado, foi a apresentação de encerramento da patinação no gelo da turma da Alice. Depois da apresentação a pista foi liberada para os pais se divertirem também com os filhotes.

Alice presented twice – the first one with the oldest girls. It was a last minute decision, so she didn’t know the routine, but even that she did very well. She wore a costume and you can see her in the movie wearing white tights.
Alice se apresentou duas vezes. A primeira delas com as meninas mais velhas, de outro nível. Como a decisão foi de última hora, ela não sabia a dança, mas mesmo assim se saiu bem. Ela usou uma roupa especial e é a que está de meia calça branca no vídeo.

For the second presentation she and her colleagues had invented the routine. So cute!

A segunda apresentação fez com as colegas dela e elas mesmas que inventaram os passos. Fofo!

It was very beautiful and emotional to see her presenting. She started the classes at level 1 and ended at level 4. A great improvement and a result of her effort in enhance her ice skating skills.

Foi muito legal e emocionante de assistir. A Alice iniciou as aulas (em janeiro) no nível 1 e terminou no nível 4. Uma melhora bastante expressiva e resultado do grande esforço que fez para melhorar.

Despite the hot prices of the classes we ecided to keep Alice in this same course for the next period which will start only next fall .
A Alice gostou tanto das aulas que nós decidimos mantê-la no curso, apesar do preço salgado, para a próxima temporada que se iniciará apenas no outono.

Alice and Bruna – BFF

Despite the long distance between them, their friendship seems not weakens. Bruna, as I said in the previous post, came to Calgary to visit us! It is amazing, isn’t it? Alice was very excited about it and was very happy to see her again. They played as they had seen each other the day before and they enjoyed a lot their short time together.

Apesar da longa distância que separa as duas, parece que a amizade delas não se abala. Como falei no post anterior, a Bruna esteve aqui nos visitando. O máximo,não? A Alice estava muito algariada e feliz com a visita da Bruna e só falava disso nos dias anteriores. Elas brincaram como se tivessem se visto pela última vez no dia anterior. Muito fofo!

On Thursday afternoon Alice met Bruna at their hotel in downtown and they had fun in the swimming pool. Alice ended sleeping there.

Na quinta-feira a Alice encontrou com a Bruna no hotel que eles estavam hospedado em downtown e as gurias tomaram banho de piscina. No final a Alice acabou dormindo por lá.

The next day we visited the Tower and the girls had fun at the Hurricane Machine!

No dia seguinte fomos na torre de Calgary onde as gurias se divertiram na máquina que simula furãcão!

Later we came to our house and then walked around the Prince’s Island Park.

Depois fomos passer no Prince's Island Park.

We had some cheese cake at the Cheese Cake Factory and….had to say good bye!

E mais tarde fomos comer uma cheese cake na Cheese Cake Factory e depois...hora da despedida!

We loved the visit although it was too short!
Nós adoramos a visita, apesar de tão rápida.

Calgary Tower

We couldn’t forget to visit the famous Calgary Tower (still a city’s symbol) while Marisa was here. Alice had already visited the Tower with the triplets during the summer, but Quico and I hadn’t yet. Then we decided to go to the tower with Marisa and Bruna - yes, Bruna (Alice’s friend from Brazil) was here too! Her visit was short as they came to Calgary for only a day and a half. Anyway we (mom’s and dad’s) arranged for girls to stay together the most they could.

Nós não podíamos esquecer de visitar a famosa Torre de Calgary (ainda um símbolo da cidade). A Alice já tinha passeado por lá com os tris durante o verão, mas eu e o Quico ainda não. Estávamos aguardando a nossa primeira visita para o passeio. Decidimos então subir na torre com a Marisa e a Bruna – SIM!!!! A Bruna (amiga da Alice do Brasil) esteve por aqui! Pena que estiveram por apenas um dia e meio. De qualquer forma as mamães se organizaram direitinho para que as gurias pudessem aproveitar o máximo possível juntas.

Cloudy day

Today morning was cloudy, humid and the temperature was around 5C. Alice woke up, saw the view through the windows and said: - The day is not beautiful today, but I like when it looks like that because it reminds me our house at Ponta Grossa. Cute it, isn’t it?

Hoje o dia amanheceu feio: nublado, úmido e fresquinho com a temperatura em torno dos 5C. A Alice levantou, olhou para fora e disse: - Hoje o dia está feio, mas eu gosto quando fica assim por que lembra a nossa casa na Ponta Grossa. Boa observação, hein?

Light Saving Time...

In Canada the light saving lasts almost a full year: it begins in March and ends in late November. Some people call the “normal time” as winter time (instead of summer time, as we call in Brazil).
Aqui no Canadá o horário de verão dura quase o ano todo: inicia em março e termina plelo final de novembro. Algumas pessoas até chamam de "horário de inverno" aquele que deveria ser o horário normal.

So, from now until the beginning of Brazilian summer time we will have only three hours in difference! Ufa!!!! It will make our communication much easier!
Bom, de agora em diante, até a entrada do horário de verão brasileiro, estaremos com apenas 3 horas de diferença no tempo o que certamente vai facilitar bastante a nossa comunicação!

Waterton

Waterton was our second destination for the small trip with Marisa. Waterton is a small village in a National Park (or international? – the park shares the borders with the US).

O nosso segundo passeio foi para Waterton, uma vilazinha que fica dentro de um parque nacional (ou internacional, já que divide fronteira com os EUA?).

Despite the solitude of the place, everything else was great. The village and the park surrounded by mountains and lakes (frozen) are really beautiful. For sure we will go back there for the summer!

Apesar da desolação do lugar estava tudo ótimo. O lugar é lindo, rodeado por montanhas e lagos (que estavam congelados, é claro!). Mas, é certamente um lugar que merece visita durante o verão, quando deve ser mais lindo ainda!

That weekend was very snowing and cold and we almost couldn’t see when the road ends. This wasn´t a big deal once we were the only drivers around there! Hehehehe…

Nesse final de semana o tempo não estava colaborando muito: neve e muito frio e mal conseguíamos enxergar a estrada. Mas, é claro, isso não era um grande problema já que provavelmente só havíamos nós ali mesmo! Heheheheh.....

Here are some pictures we took in hotel. The only two places opened in this village were two hotels. ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!!

Abaixo tem umas fotinhos nossas no hotel. Acreditem: os únicos lugares abertos na vilazinha era o nosso hotel e outro. SÓ!!!!!!

Here you can see what I mean for “the village was closed”. Just have a look to the snow in front a gift shop. There wasn’t any market, any liquor store, any drug store, anything opened…

Aqui dá para ver como estava tudo fechado mesmo. Observem a quantidade de neve que tem na frente da lojinha! Nem mercadinho, nem liquor store, nada.....

Luckily there were a swimming pool and a sauna in the hotel. What could we had done without these?
Ainda bem que tinha piscina e a sauna no hotel. Sem isso, o que seria de nós?

Quico and I decided to walk around and tryed to get alongside the lake. When we got there we had an amazing view. The whiteness and silence of the place: beautiful and peaceful. It was a shame we couldn’t enjoy it a little more because of the weather.
Eu e o Quico saimos para caminhar um pouco e “conseguimos” chegar na beira do lago: muito bonito com toda a sua beleza branca e quietude. Pena que o frio não permitiu que a gente ficasse por ali mais tempo para curtir um pouco mais a paisagem.

Vejam o que encontramos no alto de uma montanhinha? – O hotel do Iluminado, que também estava fechado! – Até deu vontade de tentar ir lá, mas já pensaram se encontrássemos o Jack Nicholson louco por lá?

Yes, it was great our white and cold adventure. We hope Marisa had enjoyed it too.

Primeiro passeio

This is something interesting about languages. This word “passeio” is one of those words I can’t find a property correlation in English. I already had tried different words to describe it, but I never could find the best one, so today I kept the post title in Portuguese.
Uma das coisas que acho interessante a respeito das línguas é a falta que sentimos de algumas palavras. Neste caso, sinto a falta da palavra passeio, em inglês. Já tentei várias alternativas para substituir, mas parece que nunca consigo achar uma palavra ou expressão com sentido tão bem expresso quanto em português. Por isso, desa vez o título do post ficou em português.

However this post is not about language, but about the first “passeio” (small trip) we had with Marisa. We went to Banff for a long weekend (yes, Alice missed one school day) and spent three days in Banff and Canmore, enjoying all the beauty of this region and enjoying our time together in a very nice hotel.
Mas, não é disso que quero falar. Quero contar um pouco e mostrar um pouco do nosso primeiro passeio com a Marisa por aqui. A Alice faltou um dia de aula e fizemos um final de semana prolongado em Banff. Ficamos num hotel tri bom e aproveitamos bastante a beleza das montanhas nevadas.

Family Day

Last Monday we celebrated the Family Day going to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller (at Horseshoe Cannyon). We found late in the morning that the museum entrance was free for this holiday, so we went there.

Na última segunda-feira nós aproveitamos o feriado dedicado à família para fazer um passeio de família. Fomos ao museu de dinossauros (Royal Tyrrel Museum) que fica em Drumheller (no Horseshoe canion - aonde já estivemos no verão). Nós descobrimos que a entrada para o museu era gratuita, devido ao feriado, então nos mandamos para lá.

This museum is wonderfull and there were a long time we were planning to go there. It is not only a exhibits museum about dinossaurs, but it is a top research place about paleontology. The museum not only holds numerous skeltons and fossils of dinosaurs as it holds one of the biggest fossils collections of the world.

O museu abriga não só uma grande coleção de esqueletos e fósseis de dinossauros (uma das maiores do mundo), como também é um espaço dedicado à pesquisa em paleontologia.
